My mission is to get a billion butts in boats on clean water!
I grew up in Rural Malibu in the 1950's when it was cheap and too far out of town. I couldn't go to school for what I have done because schools are at least 20 year behind the cutting edge technology I have used.
I have been making and selling kayaks, boats, and other products for over 50 years since 1971. I have done this for my own companies and for other companies. Overcoming problems by imagining creative solutions has really been my occupation throughout my life.
I originated the first popular sit on top kayak with my company Ocean Kayak. I made my own first mold and the machine to make them out of plastic. This was the first fishing kayak. The company grew to almost 6 million dollars and then I sold it in 1997. Theses kayaks were manufactured in the US, France and New Zealand and were sold all over the world. In season 200 to 300 kayaks were made daily and one year the factory doors actually rusted open until Christmas break.
I designed many other kayaks and boats for other companies over the years including Lifetime, NuCanoe, Diablo. I also worked on profitably recycling the 90% of plastic that doesn't get recycled and can end up in our oceans. The beginning of my career and up to this point can be read about in my book.
In 2020 I designed the folding Origami Paddler that was in the top 30 all time Kickstarter campaigns. About 27,000 paddlers were delivered.
