THE LOCATION

oVANCOUVER ISLAND This Island is almost 300 miles long. The west coast is very rugged with tall mountains and deep glaciated valleys that are now inlets or fjords. The inlets in our area are deeper than the ocean till you get over 10 miles out. The west coast has much more weather and is more dramatic with fewer roads and people on it. The east side of Vancouver Island has more towns and even has the capital of British Columbia, Victoria. When Victoria was built it was more convenient because more people went by boat than roads. There are ferries to Vancouver Island with regular schedules from the mainland. There are also regular flights and charter flights even from Seattle.

oCAMPBELL RIVER This town is about half way up the east side of Vancouver Island and the best place to get serious supplies. One drives through Campbell River on the way in. This can be a place you can fly into to save a lot of time and is cheaper than a float plane to Nuchatlitz. It is still about 100 miles to Nuchatlitz from Campbell River. Nuchatlitz is due west of Campbell River. There is a lot of Alaska ship traffic that passes by there.

oTAHSIS At the end of the road from Campbell River is Tahsis which was an old saw mill town. It is not uncommon to see bears or elk on the road coming into town. There is fuel and supplies at this town of about 1000 people. This is a popular launch site for fishermen and kayakers. Just before Tahsis is the town of Gold River which has a float plane airline that can take you right to Nuchatlitz on a regular schedule.

oNOOTKA ISLAND After getting in the boat it is about one hour by water to Nuchatlitz down one of the inlets or fjords with steep cliffs and now you start to see more marine wild life. Nootka island is on your left for most of the trip out as the inlet creates Nootka Island.

oNUCHATLITZ ISLAND and surrounding area as you can see on the satellite pictures are well protected but right out on the open North West Pacific Ocean. This is where the wildlife is so abundant. It is very peaceful there and so quiet you can hear your own heart.

oSEA OTTER ISLAND is the place where the house is.
