THE HOUSE oVIEW The view to the west from the living room and kitchen looks out to the open Pacific between islands that protect the bay right in front of the house from wind and waves. On the back side you look out over a large flat grassy back yard that is very warm in the morning sun. RENTAL POTENTIAL A house that pays for itself. Many of the neighbors rent their houses out at all times of the year. Some have special yoga retreats and others have sportsmen or writers. It is interesting to see who makes it out to this very special and desirable end of the earth. The income off sets expenses which makes much easier a little easier and there are people out there to help manage guests coming and going. oAROUND THE HOUSE The area surrounding the house right in front of the house is a calm small bay that dries at low tide so you can hike over to the island right in front of the house. This island to the west is an abandoned Indian Reserve. You can hike at low tide around the Reserve to the sand spit in front of that where the ocean is rougher. The hike continues around the next stunning island, Chias, where you are closer to the open ocean and wildlife. The total distance around the island is about a mile. To the east is Nuchatlitz Island which is about 60 acres of virgin mature rainforest. There are trees 10’ thick with many hiking trails to the various house sites. The easiest way to get around is by boat. oHOUSE Generally warm and well lit form the solar heat and self sufficient from Solar power. The approximately. 2000 sq. ft. house layout starts with two ramps, one from the back yard for easy access walking or hauling things. At the top of the back yard ramp I usually enter through the doors under a generous 16x20 outdoor sheltered area that is nice for taking off your boots and rain gear. The two doors go into either a 14x8 mud room/laundry/extra bedroom or a 16x24 living room with the wood stove and desk area. The living room is connected to the kitchen which has a higher ceiling with a green house window in front. The kitchen and living room look out to the spectacular view of the Pacific and bay in front of the house which usually has an animal show going on. In the kitchen and throughout the house there are many sky lights that bring in a lot of heat and allow you to see the stars at night. If you want to get closer to the show or do some barbecuing there is a great deck with a little over hang. This is a wonderful place to enjoy the great sunsets. Adjoining the kitchen is an extra 8x16 bedroom that has a loft and could have two beds in it and has a lot of privacy. Now the only thing that is between us and the mud room is the 9x16 bathroom which has a sink, composting toilet and a shower with a flash heater. Right next to the bath is the large 6x9 pantry that is in the middle of the house and is vented to keep the food cool even when the house is warm. When it is cold you can shut the doors and just heat the living room and kitchen. The living room is cozy because the nice futons surround the wood stove and fold into 2 queen sized beds. Right over the living room is a 16x24 master bedroom upstairs that has a sliding glass door with a balcony. There is also more storage upstairs with a desk. There are more sky lights which makes the area nice and warm. There is storage under the house and a wood shed just under and in front of the kitchen where I store many cords of fire wood and dry milled wood. |
