Do you have an idea for your own boat design? If so, and you would like 10 or more of them for you and your friends or your club or organization, we can make it happen.
We cater to individuals and business alike. You can pick an existing design of boat that you would like us to customize for you or we can go to the drawing board and create an entirely new design to satisfy your particular wishes. Tim Niemier has over 40 years of experience under his belt. Designing is his passion and can turn your big dreams into the small boat you have been looking for in as little as eight weeks.
Each of Tim’s designs starts an idea generated while out on the water. As he spends time out there, he learns ways that boats could be modified to perform better in particular conditions. His inspiration can come from the way his boat maneuvers through the rough surf or the comfort and stability he looks for while out fishing for salmon off of Vancouver Island.
Once Tim births an idea, he will develop the basic shape and design through sketches. He will then turn the sketch into a small foam model that he can hold in his hands. The design has often evolved even further by now as Tim’s hands do most of the thinking in this step and often come up with a design that he claims is even better than anything he could have thought up in his head. In this small physical form, it makes it easy to pass around for others to look and get a better feel for what the final product may look like. Any changes that need to be made can be done with little hassle or money spent.
When the model seems just about perfect, Tim will pass it off to his engineer who will transfer it to the CAD system where it will be analyzed for hydrostatics, stability and various other coefficients. Next, the design will be refined for aesthetics and to assure a buildable boat. Before a final product is made, the CNC machine will carve out a full size Styrofoam prototype to be tested and retested. Finally any last adjustments will be made and the boat will be carved out and either thermoformed, roto-molded or glassed.
Tim paddles his boats year around up and down the west coast and on trips around the world. He puts many miles on his boats in a short period of time. If any faults are exposed in the new design, adjustment will be made. During this time, new ideas for new boats will start to develop and lead to new boat designs for the future!
The cost to design or build a boat with us is dependent on the complexity of the design you are looking for. Tim will work with you every step of the way until you get your boat in the water. If you have ideas and want to know if they are possible, Tim would love to chat with you about it!
